Guest Post - The Quiet Place

Hello Fellow Single Gals,

Recently I was contacted by Hillary from The Quiet Place asking if I would consider guest posting for them. I immediately emailed her saying "yes"!!

Today I am being featured on their blog, so click here and check it out. It's called Finding Comfort in the "Waiting Room".

I hope y'all can take something away from it.
Blessings on this rainy day.

Happy Thursday!

Christian Gal vs. the Online World

     Christian gal. Meet online dating.

Singles often get "advised" to check out online dating as it is the "new way" of meeting people.
Let me give you some advice. If you are not single, do not advise your single friends to pursue the online dating world, I repeat, DO NOT (but then again, maybe this is just my own personal preference, so take my advice with a grain of salt).

Not only is this slightly offensive, but it gives your friend the feeling that you think they are completely incapable of finding someone in the real world (and if you are a good friend, they don't want to know that you feel this way about them).

I love how Becca from My Life as a Single Christian puts it, so I'm gonna let her paint the picture for you: "a.) half the people online aren't really there. b.) they still want women to pursue them, c.) the prize goes to the woman who pursues the most, so unless you're that super aggressive girl, you're going to lose every time. I know because, well, I lost. Every time." I totally get what she's saying; I've tried it, and I lost.

Online dating can be great.....
For some people.
Maclean's magazine did an article about online dating this past January (you can find the article here). The article quotes that 30-40 million Canadians are on dating sites currently and 25% of ALL Canadians have tried these sites at one time. So my question to you is this: Is this the future of love as we know it?

I'm sure that if you have the personality, the drive, and the "aggression" to actively sift through hundreds of profiles I'm sure that one day you will find "the one". If you are currently in the online dating pool , good luck (and I sincerely mean that)!

How do you feel about online dating? (this post is, of course, my own limited opinion on the subject, so I would LOVE to hear what you're thinking).

Lord, is this Your Will?

Yesterday the blog Spiritually Single posted something that I think I really needed to hear. The title alone cause me to become intrigued, it was called When God says No to Something that Seems so Right.

Interested? Yeah, so was I.

Do you ever feel as though something in your life is just perfect? It feels right. It makes you happy. To say the least, it's pretty awesome. But did you ever stop to think about whether or not it's God's will for you?

Shayla, the wonderful author of Spiritually Single, writes "sometimes we get so caught up on how good something feels that we neglect to simply ask, 'Lord is this your will'. A simple yet powerful question, that can possibly save you years of grief and regret. Something that looks like a set-up can very well be a set-back."

I'm not saying that we should re-examine all those good things in our lives, but sometimes we can get so wrapped up in ourselves, and maybe the easiest solution may be to turn to our Heaveanly Father for his providence. I think Shayla coupled the perfect verse to this dilemma. We have the advantage of having a Father that has told us time and time again that He's got out backs.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths."
(Provers 3: 5-6)

The beauty of this all, is that no matter what, God has promised us that if follow Him, He will steer us in the direction that He has designed for us to go. It may not be the path we sought out for ourselves; it may not be the easist, or the most convenient, but we can trust the path, because God is our troop leader.

Happy Singles Day

Happy Singles Day my fellow single gals!

That's right, today, August 14th is exactly 6 months from Valentines day and, according to a group on facebook, is a day that ought to be celebrated.

“Think about it. If you are single, after graduation there isn’t one occasion where people celebrate you … Hallmark doesn’t make a “Congratulations, you didn’t marry the wrong guy” card. And where’s the flatware for going on vacation alone?"
- Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and the City)

Anyway. Here is YOUR holiday! Happy Independence day my Fellow Single Gals!

OWN your singleness!
EMBRACE your singleness!
CELEBRATE your singleness!

You deserve it!

A Little Help from the Outside....

As we journey through this season of singleness we often seek a little bit of help from the outside (aka. books), or at least I do. Being an avid book reader my entire life, it only seemed natural to seek out books to give me insight or help me in my current life experiences. There are a couple books that I found extremely helpful (and some, not so much), and I would like to share them with you now.

Lady in Waiting: Becoming God's Best While Waiting for Mr. Right

This was my first purchase of singleness literature - and what a good one at that! This book, written by Jackie Kendall & Debbie Jones was exactly what I needed to hear at that time. I was so 'doom and gloom' about being single, that I never realised that there might have been a reason I was single - this is a time where I can grow in my relationship with Christ.

This book was a total blessing to me, and if you pick it up, I hope you will be equally blessed.

Sacred Singleness

Author Leslie Ludy offers experiential advice to Christian single women. She has found that most Christian young women fall into one of two categories: those who are discontent and unfulfilled, constantly searching for the right one, and those who are consumed by a passionate romance with Jesus Christ and are living joyful, satisfied lives. It is her mission to help those surrender the lives to Jesus, rather than surrender their lives to the world.

An excellent read for sure!

When God Writes Your Love Story

This book is written from both a male and a female perspective. Husband and wife authors, Eric and Leslie Ludy, offer testaments from their single days, and encouragement to those walking the single path today.

I really enjoyed the perspective change throughout their book - what does a guy think in regards to this______, what does a woman think in reference to this______.

The Single Issue

Recently, I've heard much talk about book entitled The Single Issue by Al Hsu.
Here is one of the reviews I read of this book that make me want to go out an buy it right now!

Have you read The Single Issue? What did you think?
