5 Myths Single Gals Believe

Alright. Ready for this?
I, along with some help from the world wide web, have come up with 5 myths that we, as single gals, tend to believe.

1. My life will begin when I get married.
I think it's perfectly fine to have a desire to be married and be a mother someday, but don't let that stop you from living fully now. Think of the Proverbs 31 woman, she must have developed many of those skills before she was married.
Of the more than 500 references to life in the Bible, none puts marriage as a prerequisite. Jesus said: 'I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life' (John 5:24). My life started when I believed on Jesus, and it does not hinge on my marital status."

2. Marriage will meet my deepest needs and desires.
Do you ever get the feeling that women tend to idealize marriage as the ultimate wish-fulfillment experience? There may be some element of truth to this. God created woman for man as a remedy for loneliness (Genesis 2:18). And God's grace is sufficient for every circumstance (2 Corinthians 12:9). But marriage alone cannot satisfy a woman's deepest needs.

3. Still single...there must be something wrong with me.
Our society has this idea that there is something that is wrong with people who are single. Yeah right! I think that this is the one that gets me particularity miffed. Single women are not broken; therefore they do not need to be fixed. Lets just get that straight!

4. The older you are, the less likely you are to find that 'special someone.'
God is NOT bound by time limits. In the words of the apostle Paul "For from him and through him and to him are all things" (Romans 11:36). We, as a society have set up what is an acceptable age to marry, have children, etc. But society's timing is not God's timing. If it is meant to happen, it will happen in God's way, and in his own timing.

5. There's no one who really understands my singleness struggle.
Not true. Even if you don't have other single girlfriends, you do have Jesus. Jesus was single, true story...He really was! Check it out: Feeling Along? Join the club.

  1. Yipee for those myths exposed lol.
Thanks for all the scripture you put in each as well, it is beautiful to think about the fact that God is in control and knows what the rest of our lives hold.
It is wonderful to think that God did make me as an individual, and therefore has plans for my life whether I am single or not. May we all be open to God's plans for the single years... and for us to wait patiently in God's timing.

Enjoy today instead of thinking so much about tomorrow
